The Ombudsman, Endrit Shabani, was received in an official meeting at the US Department of State in Washington, at the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor.

The discussion focused on the human rights situation in Albania. During the conversation, the latest report of the Ombudsman was presented, which addresses the main challenges such as conditions in the prison system, the high number of detainees, delays in judicial processes, the right to protest and the protection of specific groups. The institution follows up on these issues through concrete recommendations to the responsible bodies.

The meeting was followed by a visit to the Albanian Embassy in Washington and a meeting with Ambassador Ervin Bushati, where Albania’s Euro-Atlantic perspective was discussed.

Cooperation with international partners remains essential for strengthening the institution, in order to guarantee the highest standards of human rights.
