The Ombudsman Institution reacted immediately after receiving a complaint from residents of neighborhood no. 14, Shkozet, Durrës, regarding the demolition of their homes by the Territory Protection Inspectorate, under the Municipality of Durrës.

The complainants’ call arrived on Monday, January 26, while immediately the following day, on Tuesday, January 27, the Ombudsman set up and sent the inspection group to the field to closely verify the situation and clarify the circumstances of the case, demonstrating institutional readiness and rapid response.

During the inspection, serious concerns were reported regarding the violation of property rights and the risk of being left homeless of several families, who have been living in this area for about 30 years and have applied for legalization since 2006.

The Ombudsman has documented the complaints of the residents and, over the following days, has developed contacts with the leaders of the Municipality of Durrës, requesting intervention and solutions in accordance with the law.

The Ombudsman Institution will continue to follow up on the case, officially communicate with local authorities and inform residents, in order to protect their legal rights and interests.
